Visit to Nowell's Lakes

Today we visited the Nowell's lakes Walkway to plant Swan Plants and to visit the Lakes.  We were looking for frog eggs and Doug thought that the bubbles at the water edge contained them but we did not think that was right.  Anyway we did see a lovely green frog and a fresh water gray fish back at the walkway stream.  Go to our 2016 page to see more photos.

Native Plants Arrive

The first of native seedlings have arrived for our new Shade House.  400 of them and Doug says that the pots are second hand and given to us by the TRC and that the seedlings are all located at the walkway and put into the pots by the PD Gang.  He said those guys commented that they were pleased to be doing something worthwhile for a change.  We too are all smiles about the way it is looking and our first job will be to learn how to identify each native plant.   This project it seems is a win-win for everyone. Ya!

New Shade House

The HCS Habitat Heroes say a big thank you to the Normanby and Districts Lion Club members who donated and built our new shade house.  Doug says that there are plenty of self sown flax plants and native trees seedlings at the established area at the Nowell’s Lakes Walkway that he get for us to look after in the shade house.  Once they grow into healthy plants we hope to replant them in the new upstream area of the Walkway.

Cows Came to School

Over Easter the cows in the paddock next door came in and helped themselves to our runner beans.  Lucky for us they did not do too much damage and anyway Doug said it gave him a chance to tidy the garden. We had a big job to do to fix the fence with a spare board from one of our forts.
